LM Studio Bionic
An AI agent by the makers of LM Studio, like OpenCode or Claude Code, that works on code and documents with open models, on your own computer or in the maker's cloud.
What you will learn
This page tells you what LM Studio Bionic is, and afterwards you can:
- say what Bionic does and how it differs from LM Studio
- choose whether a session runs on a local or a cloud model
- start a project for documents or for a folder of code
LM Studio Bionic is an AI agent like OpenCode or Claude Code: you give it a task, and it works on it on its own, reading and writing files, searching a codebase, running commands and checking the result, until the task is done. How such an agent works is explained in AI agents. Bionic is made by the company behind LM Studio and is a separate program; LM Studio stays the place for chatting with a model and changing its settings.
Bionic works in projects: a project for documents creates and edits
reports, slides and tables, and a project for code works in a folder you
choose, with Git and the command line. Within a project, each task gets a
session of its own. Like other agents, Bionic can use skills in the
SKILL.md format.
In each session you choose where the model runs. A local model runs on your own computer, is free and keeps your data on it, but must fit into its memory. A cloud model runs on the maker's servers in the USA and needs an account with a paid plan or credits.
